He taught it repeatedly, praising it in many of his Discourses; on how it can bring about deep concentration, calm, serenity, relaxation, bliss, and equilibrium or composure of the mind.<\/h2><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-8faf9694 video-text-rf42a0cb\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\">The word mett\u0101 in the ancient P\u0101li language comes from the noun mitta (Skt. mitra) which means friend. Its real meaning is \u201ca friendly disposition\u201d, that is \u201cfriendliness\u201d. As a meditation it allows us to eliminate hostile or negative dispositions towards ourselves and others and to develop friendly or positive dispositions.
